A 2-hour complementary training program was held in Jadavpur Vidyapith for the teachers regarding Suicide Prevention on Saturday, 1st February, 2020 by Sri Healthcare-Research International (SHRI) in alignment to our Anti depression movement to prevent, treat and manage depression, other mental disorders, neurosis, suicidal ideation, attempted suicides. The Training program was conducted to make the teachers and staff to be aware towards the rapid increase in the suicide rate among children, especially in high school. According to WHO, Survey report- Suicide is the 2nd largest cause of death among individuals within the age range of 10-29, and more specifically among individuals within the age of 15-29 yrs. Suicide is among the 10 leading causes of death for all ages in most of the countries, it is among the top three causes of death for people aged 15 -34 years in some countries (in accordance to WHO Report). We are losing 1 person in every 4 seconds globally. Hence, it is crucial that we address the issue in the wake of the hour to protect our future generation for sustainable humanity. Prevention is always better than cure. So we stated our Complementary training programs in schools along with treatment and management in our chambers.
The teachers were also made aware of the risk factors and cause for suicides among high school students, and the symptoms to look out for in the children to detect suicidal ideations and Depression ( Cause of 60% of suicide is clinical depression – According to W.H.O ).
The teachers were also psycho-educated on the preventive and protective factors for the prevention and reduction of the risk of suicide among children.
The response we received from the school and teachers was really positive and it was really motivating to see the teachers understanding the gravity of the scenario and paying attention to all children individually.

It was very wonderful to observe teachers mentally screening the students and asking questions and interacting regarding their contributions.
Sri Healthcare-Research International (SHRI) also distributed and shared the necessary resources with the school so that the resources can be optimally used to spread awareness and take the necessary action.
